Black beans and rice...main meal or dessert?
Food is one tool we human beings use to connect with each other. But what happens when the food you are custom to makes the other person gag?
Cubans eat black beans and rice as a main course but Thais eat black beans and rice for dessert. So, what do you do?
You try it of course...put a little on your plate and give it a try. What if you don't like it? Try it again next time, and the time after that and the time after that. You just keep trying it. It took me about 5 years of trying to eat black beans and rice as a meal before I can said I like it. My wife still has issues eating black beans and rice for dessert but she is getting better at trying it.
It all boils down to your willingness to love each other more then your taste pallet. You eat the food because it makes your partner feel good. You eat the food because your partner loves and cares enough for you that they are willing to share a part of themselves that makes them who they are. And that's the person you fell in love with, so just keep putting it on your plate and give it a try.

What are we?
What are we?
We are a mixture of culture, color, lives, traditions, customs, backgrounds...
I'm Thai American and my wife is Cuban American. We have been married for almost 20 years and have 4 children. We are a 3rd culture family!
I'm going to share with you our experiences of being a 3rd culture family. All the ups and downs the good and the bad we went through and are going through. In doing so, I hope this will help you understand your own 3rd culture family.
In the end we are family and we love each other for who we are.
